Clove, known as Laung in Hindi, is a sacred and powerful ingredient in Hindu religious practices. It is considered an essential item in Pooja Samagri, and has been used in rituals, havans, and spiritual ceremonies since ancient times. The natural aroma of Laung is believed to cleanse the environment, remove negative energies, and bring peace and purity to the surroundings.
In traditional rituals, Laung is often offered into the sacred fire (Agni) during havan or homa. The smoke that arises is thought to carry our prayers to the divine and purify the space with its strong, soothing fragrance. It is also placed in diyas (oil lamps) along with camphor to invite positive vibrations and the blessings of deities, especially during important occasions like Lakshmi Pooja, Durga Pooja, Navratri, Diwali, and Shravan rituals.
Clove is also associated with protection and energy cleansing. Many spiritual practitioners believe that Laung, when offered with devotion, helps ward off evil energies, strengthens the aura, and creates a divine atmosphere for meditation and prayer. It is sometimes placed near idols or pictures of deities as a symbol of respect and purity
