Step-by-Step Pooja Vidhi for Hawan / Homa Yagya

Follow these steps in order for a complete and proper pooja.

Setup Hawan Kund

Place the hawan kund in the center of the pooja area, facing east. Arrange samidha (wood sticks), ghee, and samagri nearby.

Sankalp (Resolution)

Take a sankalp (solemn vow) stating the purpose of the hawan - whether for peace, health, prosperity, or specific blessing.

Invoke Lord Ganesha

Begin with Ganesh Pooja to remove obstacles. Chant Ganesh mantras and offer modak/durva grass.

Invoke Agni Dev

Light the fire in the kund using camphor and ghee. Chant Agni mantras to invoke the fire god as the messenger to the deities.

Main Hawan (Aahuti)

Offer 108 or 21 aahutis (offerings) of samagri mixed with ghee into the fire while chanting mantras. Each offering is accompanied by "Swaha" at the end.

Purnahuti (Final Offering)

After the main hawan, perform Purnahuti - offering coconut, rice, fruits, and all remaining materials into the fire as a complete offering.

Perform Aarti

After hawan, perform aarti of all deities. Sing aarti songs and distribute the flame to all participants.

Apply Tilak & Blessings

Apply tilak of ash (vibuthi) or chandan to all participants. Seek blessings of elders and priests.

Distribute the prasad (offerings that were not burnt) to all participants and family members.
