Step-by-Step Pooja Vidhi for Navratri Pooja

Follow these steps in order for a complete and proper pooja.

1

Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana)

On Day 1, install a sacred kalash filled with water, mango leaves, coconut, and barley seeds. This marks the beginning of Navratri.

2

Daily Pooja Routine

Each day, wake up early, take a bath, light a diya, offer flowers, and perform aarti to the Goddess. Chant the specific mantra for each day's form.

3

Observe Fast (Vrat)

Many devotees observe a fast for 9 days (or the first and last day). Eat only vrat-friendly foods like sabudana, kuttu atta, fruits, and milk.

4

Chant Durga Saptashati

Recite chapters from Durga Saptashati (700 verses) or Durga Chalisa daily. This brings divine blessings and spiritual strength.

5

Kanya Pujan (Day 8 or 9)

Worship 9 young girls (kanyas) representing the 9 forms of Durga. Offer them new clothes, chunri, sweets, and dakshina.

6

Hawan / Homa

On the final day or 8th day, perform a hawan with samagri, ghee, and mantras to conclude the Navratri observance.

7

Visarjan

On the 10th day (Dussehra/Vijayadashami), immerse the idol or kalash in water, symbolizing the Goddess's return to her celestial abode.
